New Delhi, April 17 (IANS) Gene therapy offers hope of a cure to people with haemophilia, a hereditary blood disorder, where a person is born without one clotting factor in the blood, required for forming a blood clot, said doctors on World Haemophilia Day on Wednesday. World Haemophilia Day is observed every year on April 17 to raise awareness of the debilitating blood disorder, caused by missing or defective factor VIII (FVIII), a clotting protein. Because patients with haemophilia are unable to form a strong blood clot after injuries, they continue to bleed, raising the risk of death in severe…
New Delhi, April 16 (IANS) In a stark reminder of Twitter (now X) layoffs in 2022 when Elon Musk sacked about 80 per cent of the staff (nearly 7,500 people) after acquiring the social media platform, several high-performers have been asked to go at Tesla and some departments at the electric car company even saw 20 percent of employees being impacted. Multiple reports said that the layoffs “gutted some departments by 20 per cent and even hit high performers,” and the decision was apparently taken “due to poor financial performance”. A TechCrunch report on Tuesday claimed that layoffs – which…

New Delhi, April 7 (IANS) The world is in the midst of major developments – political, ideological and combative, attributable to the projection of religion in international politics. The rise of Islamic radical forces symbolised by Taliban, Al Qaeda, ISIS, Boko Haram and Palestinian Islamic Jehad, the fall out of the Israel-Hamas confrontation and the coming together of Iran, China and Russia in political opposition to the US, are setting the global trend of a constant shift towards geopolitics driven by faith-based conflicts. To the extent this was linked to certain historical legacies, the trend could aggravate matters for the…

New Delhi, April 13 (IANS) Elon Musk is coming to India for the first time to spend at least 48 hours in the country later this month. As all eyes are on what the billionaire would announce during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and industry leaders, Tesla lovers have only one question: When will they finally be able to drive a ‘Make in India’, affordable EV? A cheaper Model 3, which is the entry-level Tesla, can only be possible with local manufacturing of battery components and a strong EV supply system, for which Musk will surely have a…
