The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has announced that the mortuary at Tavua Hospital will temporarily shut down to allow renovation works to be carried out. The closure will begin on Monday, May 25 and continue until Friday, June 12, 2026. During this period, families are being advised to take their deceased loved ones to the Ba Aspen Hospital or other nearby medical facilities that provide morgue services. Fiji’s border security operations have been strengthened following the graduation of 20 Immigration Officers from the country’s first structured induction training programme. Police have arrested two men as investigations continue into a violent assault and property damage incident in Wailoku on Saturday night. Teams from the Southern Division Quick Response Unit, Samabula officers, and the Joint Taskforce carried out an operation after receiving information on the suspects’ location. The operation led officers to a residence along Waimanu Road in Suva, where two of the four alleged suspects were taken into custody. The victim remains admitted at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital receiving treatment.
