An emergency water operation is underway on Batiki Island following shortages affecting communities that depend mainly on rainwater harvesting. The Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Risk Management, through the Divisional Commissioner Eastern Office, is working with the Ministry of Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport and the Water Authority of Fiji to deliver water to the island. The trial of Suva lawyer Tanya Waqanika has been vacated and rescheduled to October 12th to 16th. Waqanika appeared before Suva Magistrate Yogesh Prasad this morning. The court informed the parties that the trial, initially scheduled to begin on the 28th of this month, could not proceed as planned due to other matters spilling over. FICAC Manager Legal Joseph Work told the court the prosecution expects to call between four and five witnesses during the trial. The defence is expected to call six witnesses.
