The Electoral Commission of the Republic of Fiji has officially opened the campaign period for the next General Election, effective today, 25 May 2026. Under Section 109A(1) of the Electoral Act 2014, campaigning will close 48 hours before polling day. The Water Authority of Fiji has confirmed that repair works on the DN 600 trunk main linking the Waila Water Treatment Plant to the Wainibuku Reservoir were completed yesterday. WAF said the repaired section of the pipeline was successfully tested before the system was recharged and water inflow restored to the main Wainibuku Reservoir. Restoration efforts then continued across other connected reservoirs and affected supply systems. The authority also carried out flushing operations as water supply was gradually restored to customers overnight and into this morning. Two people remain in critical condition at Nadi Hospital following a three-vehicle collision in Martintar, Nadi on the night of May 23, 2026. Police say a 21-year-old man from Nadi allegedly attempted to overtake a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old woman when his vehicle clipped the side of her car. A 39-year-old man has become Fiji’s latest road fatality victim following a motor vehicle accident in Sigatoka on Friday. The victim was allegedly driving towards Olosara when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to cross into the opposite lane and collide with an oncoming vehicle. Both drivers were taken to Sigatoka Hospital for treatment, however the 39-year-old died several hours later.
