Four police officers charged in relation to an alleged assault case during a drug raid have been further remanded in custody. Jekope Nakula, Maciu Tuira, Tokoni Nemia and Unaisi Leka appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele this afternoon. It is alleged the four officers assaulted a victim during a drug raid at Wailea Settlement in March 2024. The case was reported by the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission on behalf of the victim. The Suva High Court has raised concerns over delays in key evidence disclosures in the case involving two men charged over the death of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi. Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar questioned why police had yet to provide a postmortem report despite the seriousness of the matter.
