Students at 12 schools in the Central Division could soon begin learning Chinese under a proposed language programme being considered for Fiji’s education system. The pilot would involve six primary and six secondary schools, giving students an opportunity to learn the Chinese language and gain a better understanding of its culture. The Fiji Navy has received three Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats and a new boat ramp from the United States to help strengthen its operations around Fiji’s waters. The handover was held at the Stanley Brown Naval Base in Walu Bay this morning. Four people, including two juveniles, were arrested during a snap checkpoint along the Hibiscus Highway in Naweni on Wednesday, August 12. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Kasiano Vusonilawe said the arrests were made over the alleged unlawful possession of illicit drugs believed to be marijuana. He said Northern Division operations teams are continuing to target both the cultivation and possession of illicit drugs.
