Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has congratulated the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) on achieving its highest-ever annual revenue collection, saying the milestone reflects growth in government revenue. FRCS collected a record $3.51 billion in net revenue for the financial year ended July 31, exceeding the Government’s annual forecast by $136.2 million. Rabuka says the result is important and should be acknowledged, particularly as it demonstrates stronger revenue collection during a period of economic uncertainty. More than 4,200 mahogany and vesi seedlings are expected to be planted across 12 hectares of harvested forest land in Nameka Village, Tailevu, as part of efforts to restore forest resources and protect biodiversity. The reforestation project follows harvesting activities in Coupe 1, where Mataqali Tuimatanitai has requested 2,142 mahogany and 2,142 vesi seedlings under Condition 4 of its Native Licence. A father and son are in custody following an alleged assault in Sigatoka that led to the death of a 38-year-old man. According to Police the incident occurred on Sunday after the victim and two 16-year-old students were allegedly assaulted by the suspects following a confrontation over an incident involving one of the victim’s farm animals. Twenty-seven farmers from five villages in Bua have received practical training aimed at improving ginger production and creating greater opportunities through commercial agriculture. The two-day programme was held at Sawani Village and brought together farmers from Nasolo, Nasavu, Nasawana, Sawani and Saolo in the Tikina of Nadi.
