A 38-year-old man from Olosara in Sigatoka is believed to be the country’s latest road fatality victim following a horrific accident along Queens Road in Nayawa, Sigatoka. Police say the victim was driving when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle, causing it to veer onto the opposite lane and collide with a minivan carrying fifteen passengers. The driver was rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital, where medical officials confirmed his death. Two passengers travelling in the minivan remain admitted at the Lautoka Hospital receiving treatment, while the remaining passengers were treated and later discharged. A victim of the fire at the Zamzam Restaurant in Samabula has passed away. Police confirmed that the victim, a 23-year-old foreign national, died over the weekend while receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained in the blaze. Authorities say the remaining six victims are still admitted in hospital, where they continue to receive treatment. Their conditions have not been disclosed. The Ministry of Health highlights that nurses at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital are only encouraged to work three 12-hour shifts each week to remain within labour law requirements.
