The Pacific’s yachting industry generated more than 18 million US dollars in total economic impact in 2023, despite attracting only around 950 yachts across three Pacific countries. The figures are contained in economic impact studies supported by the Market Development Facility, or MDF, and were highlighted during the launch of the Pacific Tourism Yachting Strategy 2026–2030. The studies found that yachting generated more than 8.7 million US dollars in direct expenditure across Vanuatu, Tonga and Kiribati in 2023. Seven civil society organisations have come together to establish Fiji’s Citizens’ Observer Group, a national coalition that will support non-partisan domestic observation of the country’s future General Elections. The Memorandum of Understanding establishing the group was signed today, bringing together organisations with different areas of expertise and community networks under a common framework for election observation. Construction of the Tamavua-i-Wai Bridge and its approach roads is continuing, with several key components of the project progressing. The Suva-side abutment has been completed and is currently undergoing curing, while remaining piling works on the bridge are also being carried out. Once the piling works are completed, utility relocation will begin to allow the next phase of construction to proceed.
