Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has congratulated the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) on achieving its highest-ever annual revenue collection, saying the milestone reflects growth in government revenue. FRCS collected a record $3.51 billion in net revenue for the financial year ended July 31, exceeding the Government’s annual forecast by $136.2 million. A father and son are in custody following an alleged assault in Sigatoka that led to the death of a 38-year-old man. According to Police the incident occurred on Sunday after the victim and two 16-year-old students were allegedly assaulted by the suspects following a confrontation over an incident involving one of the victim’s farm animals. Twenty-seven farmers from five villages in Bua have received practical training aimed at improving ginger production and creating greater opportunities through commercial agriculture. The two-day programme was held at Sawani Village and brought together farmers from Nasolo, Nasavu, Nasawana, Sawani and Saolo in the Tikina of Nadi. A 30-year-old man has died following a road accident in Martintar, Nadi, in the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident occurred along Queens Road shortly after 1am. Police allege the man suddenly crossed the road and was struck by a vehicle being driven by a 32-year-old man. He was taken to Nadi Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the accident are continuing.
