Row a boat on Lake Parramatta
Visitors will soon be able to explore the picturesque surrounds of Lake Parramatta in a unique way by hiring a range of small water craft. Parramatta Rowboats will launch their hire service from Saturday 3 September, just in time for Father’s Day weekend and the start of the spring season.
The non-motorised water craft will include pedal boats, row boats, canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. Paddleboats and rowboats can be hired by up to four people while other craft are suitable for individuals and couples.
“Lake Parramatta is the ideal location for a wonderful day out with family and friends and the addition of this hire service enhances the visitor experience by extending the recreational opportunities on offer,” City of Parramatta Administrator Amanda Chadwick said.
The launch of the hire service follows Council’s call for Expressions of Interest (EOI) earlier in the year. The appointed operator also runs a successful boat hire service from the Lane Cove Boat Shed and provides rowboat hire at Darling Harbour.
“Council has undertaken significant works in recent years to improve the overall water quality which has allowed the return of swimming to the Lake and other aquatic based recreational activities,” Ms Chadwick said. “The Lake provides a scenic natural space to explore and I encourage everyone to come along and discover this hidden gem.”
Lake Parramatta provides a range of leisure options including bushwalking tracks, barbecue and picnic facilities, playground, native wildlife and bird watching, a café and a public swimming area which is patrolled by lifeguards from October to March each year. Water craft hire is available in periods of one hour, two hours, four hours or for the whole day and will operate on weekends, public holidays and school holidays (excluding the July 2017 holidays), from 10am to 5pm (6pm during daylight saving) for a one year trial.
