VISION RELEASED FOR THE FUTURE WATERLOO

The NSW Government has today unveiled three options for the Waterloo redevelopment and Minister for Social Housing Pru Goward is calling on the community to have their say in developing a preferred master plan. The three options – Waterloo Estate, Waterloo Village Green and Waterloo Park – all offer more new social and affordable housing, more green space, better shopping and community facilities, as well as improved access to public transport that will include the new Sydney Metro.

Ms Goward said the feedback of residents during an extensive consultation helped shape the three options.“The Waterloo community told us they want to live in a mixed community of private, affordable and social housing, and each option reflects this with different types of housing distributed evenly across the precinct,” Ms Goward said.

“They also emphasised the importance of communal and open space, Aboriginal heritage and local employment opportunities. Now we want residents, business owners and any other member of the community to have their say on these redevelopment options.”

The Waterloo precinct will be redeveloped as part of the NSW Government’s Communities Plus program and will contain a mix of social, affordable and private housing. All three options for Waterloo allow for at least five per cent of the new dwellings to be delivered as affordable housing.

The redevelopment of Waterloo will be staged over 15-20 years, and all current social housing residents have the right to return to the estate. Further community consultation will help to determine a preferred plan from the three options, which will form the basis for the final master plan. Communities Plus will deliver up to 23,500 new and replacement social and affordable housing dwellings and up to 40,000 private homes over the next 10 years across NSW.
