Australia Samoa Women’s 7s Development Team will participate in Kinesio Cup.

The Samoan Rugby Union will be looking closely at the Australia-Samoa Women’s 7s Development Team has announced that it will contest in the UON Central Coast Sevens Kinesio Cup.

The team formally entered by the Samoa Rugby Union will use the tournament as a trial and talent identification event for the ManuSina National 7s Team.

fiji-aus-samKolose Feaunati the Australia Samoa Women’s 7s Development Coach said “This is a great opportunity for Samoa players based in Australia who have aspirations to play for the ManuSina women’s 7’s team. This is a trial for them as players and the step up is pretty huge, it doesn’t get any bigger than the Central Coast Sevens. As players, if they perform well at the Central Coast 7’s then they will be pushed up into the Manusina 7’s setup, We don’t have long to prepare as a team, so there is bit of pressure on us, but that’s something we hope these girls can handle at this level”

The Samoans will add to the international flavour of the tournament and will be looking to take on some big name opposition none more so than the Olympic Champions the Australian National Women’s Sevens Team.

Central Coast Tournament Director Craig Morgan added “we welcome the inclusion of the Samoan team, the girls will be looking to make a significant impact and earn their place in the ManuSina national team so they will have a lot to play for and there is no better testing ground than the Central Coast Sevens”

Coach Feaunati highlighted Atasi Lafai as a player to watch with the 21 year old sister of St George Illawarra Dragons NRL player Tim Lafai impressing having represented both Sydney and NSW.

“Atasi was unlucky not to make the 2016 Wallaroos squad to NZ but has jumped at the chance of representing Australia Samoa Women’s 7’s development team. Hopefully the exposure at the Central Coast Sevens will push further claims for her towards the national team Manusina 7’s setup. She will be one to watch out for at the central coast 7’s”.
