“The impact of climate change are upon us and effective adaptation is integral to sustainable economic growth and transformation integration must begin now.”
This was highlighted by the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy, Hon. Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum while officiating at the launch of Global Commission and Adaptation (GCA) Flagship Report in Naveicovatu village, Tailevu this afternoon.
“The report provides recommendation of how to unlock and accelerate adaptation in several sectors, including agriculture, water, natural eco-systems, infrastructure, cities, finance, disaster risk management and locally led adaption.”
Fiji’s “Follow the Sun” launch event for the GCA Report reflects the Report’s two core themes.
Firstly, that the effective adaptation requires both ownership from local communities and integration of nature-based solutions.
Secondly, that effective adaptation must begin now, with increased urgency and investment from families in rural villages to the world’s most prominent decision-makers, and everyone in-between.
The launch occurred at Naveicovatu village, which has successfully used widespread planting of Vetiver Grass to halt severe erosion from the Wainibuka riverbank.
