RAM NAUMI IS A SYMBOL OF UNITY AMONG THE PEOPLE IN FIJI – BHATNAGER

The Assistant Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Hon Veena Bhatnagar yesterday officiated at the Ram Naumi Celebration at the Fiji Brahma Kumaris Rajyog Meditation Centre in Suva.

Speaking at the event Hon. Bhatnagar highlighted the story of Lord Rama which teaches everyone to understand the duties of the individual, families and the society.

She told the devotees that Lord Rama is a true embodiment of an obedient son, a loyal brother, perfect husband and a great king as he possessed the highest qualities of compassion, kindness, integrity and righteousness. She also brought to light the issues Fiji as a society faces today and encouraged devotees to reflect on the teachings from the Ramayana and the life of Lord Rama that will create united and peaceful communities in Fiji.

“There is also a high rate of violence against women and girls, child abuse, family dispute and increasing number of senior citizens in our state homes that speaks volumes of the negligence and the lack of love ,compassion and care accorded to them by their own family members,” Hon. Bhatnager said.

“The Fijian Government through its initiatives will take care of the welfare of persons living with disabilities, senior citizens, underprivileged families and victims of domestic violence but we also have to do our part to enhance peace and love within the family unit and take care of the needy members of our community.”

Ram Naumi celebrations is nine days of worship, prayer, fasting, devotional song and reciting Holy Ramayana and ends on the coming Sunday.
