As construction of the new Sydney Football Stadium (SFS) moves past the three quarter mark, NSW-based business are the winners with $480 million of the stadium’s budget going to local suppliers.

Premier Dominic Perrottet said the NSW Government, through its partnership with John Holland, had made it a priority to award contracts at the stadium to locally-based businesses, with the majority of NSW contracts going to Western Sydney businesses.

“With the last pieces of the roof’s steel being put into place, we can now see the entire shape of the stadium as we hit the 80 per cent mark,” Mr Perrottet said.

“Last year we announced around $300 million of the stadium’s budget had gone into the pockets of NSW-based businesses, but we’re delighted that amount has now increased by more than 60%, to $480 million.

“With those contracts comes a NSW jobs boom. Around 1100 jobs have been supported on site during the build, and thousands more off site in NSW. In addition, there will be more than 600 jobs supported both at the SFS and offsite, once the new stadium is complete.”

Among the NSW businesses to benefit are the companies manufacturing the steel for the roof, laying the turf and laying around 25 kilometres of electrical cable, the equivalent in distance from Moore Park to Bankstown.

Minister for Sport Natalie Ward said the SFS will be a world-class sporting and entertainment venue for everyone to enjoy, attracting local, interstate and international fans.

“It’s so exciting to see the final pieces taking shape at our fantastic new SFS. We’re beginning to get a real feel for what fans will experience when the stadium hosts major events,” Mrs Ward said.

“Work is now on the home stretch and the stadium is on track to be finished and open by the NRL finals series next year.”

Member for Vaucluse Gabrielle Upton said the world-class SFS will also help drive the economy by supporting local businesses in the Eastern Suburbs.

“Moore Park is a special NSW sporting precinct and it is also an entertainment and recreational precinct for my local community. We can’t wait until it opens up for us to drive up visitations and also help local businesses,” Ms Upton said.

The funding boost to local suppliers is part of the stadium’s overall $828 million budget. Construction remains on schedule and on budget.
