Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Parveen Kumar Bala has called upon Ba residents to act as a local community and mitigate the effects of climate change.

“It is real and it is here,” he said while officiating at the crowning ceremony of Miss Riverside in Ba, where the Ba Riverside Carnival theme “Climate change is real, change now to battle the unknown.”

“I look forward to and urge the Ba Riverside Carnival committee to go further this year and come up with a community-based program for climate change action in Ba, that is ongoing, sustainable and includes all the people of Ba. You will have my commitment and support for such an initiative.”

He congratulated the carnival contestants and noted their roles as young leaders. “These beautiful and intelligent young women of Ba are all winners by putting their hands up and joining this important community carnival. And as young leaders are taking important steps towards nation building.”

Elena Totovosau was crowned Miss Ba Riverside 2019.
