Mind your Mental Health Workshop

Haathi in the Room is an initiative by Megha Agarwal , Vidhisha Khetwani , Nitasha Bhaitia , Monica Das under the guidance of community champion and Strathfield Women of the year 2017, Sue Advani to raise awareness and challenge the stigma around mental health in South Asian Community.

October being the Mental Health month, Haathi in the Room team organised “Mind your Mental Health Workshop” at Coronation Club, Burwood on 22/10/2017. This was the second workshop by the team, following their launch workshop in April this year.

The workshop was highly successful and was well attended by Men and Women who joined in to participate in this noble cause wearing shades of blue. Panel speakers Dr Mohita Chaudary  , general adult consultant psychiatrist , Shagun Gulgulia, Family therapist and Terry Haayema,  Senior Agile Coach at Commonwealth Bank shared very insightful information which was very well received by the audiences. They collectively covered information on Depression, Anxiety, Bi Polar, and Schizophrenia and provided useful tips how to lead a happy and contented life.

Marc Levingston , Beyond Blue ambassador shared his life journey and his struggles with Mental Health and how he overcame the challenges

Ice breaker game “Bingo” was introduced by the team which got the attendees to mingle and know each other better.

Two brave hearts Seemita Varma and Danielle Armstrong shared their mental health journey via a video clip. The aim was to encourage more people to come forward and share their stories and be open in accepting and taking action in regards to their mental wellbeing.

The event was supported by Simranjit Singh of  Futurne world Tour, Sydney Sindhi association, Divyank Sharma of Reine Creative Displays, Vivek Dasgupta of Vivek Dasgupta Photography, Seema Sahni of The interior designer , Neerav Rastogi of Blends Café and Restaurant , Ajay Raj of Maya the Dhaaba and Vinay Thandra of Curry lovers. There was an auction of a beautiful silk kaftan donated by Ashima Punj of Inoa Fashions.

For many, the creation of artistic works is a healing and life-enhancing process. Manvi Rastogi, 12 year old sold her paintings at the workshop to raise funds for Beyond Blue.

The workshop concluded with yoga by Raju Gopaldas.

All  proceeds were generously donated to Beyond Blue by the team.
