Live music ignites local venues, eateries and bars in the Parramatta CBD

Venues, eateries and bars in the Parramatta CBD will add live music to their menus on Saturday 14 April when City of Parramatta hosts its 2018 ‘Live and Local’ event. Returning for its second year, the event will see more than 70 Western Sydney artists perform five hours of free, non-stop live music from 1pm to 6pm across 17 venues in the Parramatta CBD.

“With a growing number of live music and entertainment venues across the City, Parramatta is transforming into a thriving hub for live music and visitors, residents and workers are enjoying the benefits,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said. “This year, Live and Local will include more artists from Western Sydney and culminate with an exciting program of original live music performances. Everyone should bring their friends, join us to experience all that our local music scene has to offer, and be prepared for a great afternoon out.”

This year’s line-up includes popular artists L-Fresh the Lion, B Wise, and Pist Idiots, as well as up-and-coming performers Nasho, Slim Set, Orion, High-Tails, Big White, Elijah Yo, Jannah Beth, Cult Shotta and more. Performances are set to roll out across many CBD locations and venues including Centenary Square, the Albion Hotel, Alex & Co, Husk and Vine, Butter Sydney, Burger Project, Bavarian Bier Café, 353 Church Street (formerly Ribs and Rumps Parramatta), Novotel Sydney Parramatta, UNE Sydney and Parramatta’s award-winning small bar Uncle Kurt’s.

Pop artist and Parramatta local Carla Wehbe, who performed at the event last year said: “Live and Local has been instrumental in providing a stage for emerging Western Sydney artists to showcase their talent and secure future paid performance opportunities.” “I’m excited to be a part of Live and Local again this year and look forward to being able to connect with wider audiences and performance venues.”

Echoing her thoughts, MC Dev from Western Sydney duo Slim Set believes the event will be a big moment for both the band and other Western Sydney artists. “Having grown up in Parramatta, it’s great to see Council not only listening to, but backing local artists. Western Sydney’s sound is shaping up strong and we’ve got a mixed-pack of popular acts on the bill,” he said.

Live and Local Parramatta is being delivered by City of Parramatta Council in partnership with the Live Music Office. It is part of the Live and Local Strategic Initiative, a NSW State Government program funded through Create NSW to help support emerging Western Sydney artists and stimulate a thriving local music culture in Parramatta.
