Cricket Australia has announced luxury Swiss watchmaker, Hublot, has come on board as Official Licensed Watch of Cricket Australia for the 2017-18 summer of cricket. The one-year deal will involve Hublot producing 32 limited edition Classic Fusion Ashes Watches, in recognition of the 32 Ashes series both Australia and England currently hold and the tie-breaking nature of the contest that got underway yesterday, with the winning captain of the Magellan Ashes Series to be presented with the 33rd watch after the series.
The deal sees Hublot extend their association with cricket, adding to their existing partnership with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Michael Clarke’s ongoing role as a brand ambassador, and will see Cricket Australia join a prestigious list of global sporting brands to have partnered with the esteemed watchmaker, including Ferrari, Chelsea FC, and the Dallas Cowboys.
In addition to the limited-edition timepieces, Hublot will also receive rights to the countdown clock on in-stadium signage, used to countdown until the start of the coin toss and each session, across the Magellan Ashes Series and the Gillette ODI and T20INTL Series respectively. Hublot is also throwing its support behind the Allan Border Medal, Australian Cricket’s premier awards event, with the brand set to be presenting partner of one of the awards on the night.
Cricket Australia General Manager, Broadcasting, Digital Media & Commercial, Ben Amarfio, says the prestigious partnership is a fitting one in an Ashes year.
“We are very excited to have a globally renowned luxury brand such as Hublot coming on board as a partner of Cricket Australia and to be working with them in creating these limited-edition watches to celebrate Australia’s most famous sporting contest. “It’s only fitting that this ‘time-honoured’ series sees one of the world’s luxury watch brands being associated with one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events – The Ashes.”
