Minister for Health and Medical Services Hon. Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete today urged anaesthetists to continue their efforts in providing the best medical services not only within the confines of the hospital but extend into the realms of public health.
He made the comments while addressing the 30th Pacific Society for Anaesthetists Meeting at the Shangri-La Fijian Resort in Sigatoka, as he praised the work done by them. “Safety is the most important aspect in the delivery of quality health care because all the advances and improvements in medical training and technology focus entirely on safety and a better outcome which is cost-effective,” he said.
“And that makes the theme of this conference ‘Delivery of Safe Anaesthetics in Times of Disasters’ very relevant as it augurs well with the local, regional and international agenda on Health and Development.” He added that the health systems in the pacific region have been tested over the years and cases have been used as a learning platform to build capacity. “We’ve learnt that we can only respond well to disasters if we are well prepared and this conference will be an excellent platform to gain knowledge and skills to help us to be resilient and respond better in the future.”
Minister Waqainabete added that there was a major need to promote safe anaesthesia in order to achieve safer surgeries. The Minister called for more promotion of the safe practice of Anaesthetists while address the region’s leading Anaesthetists at their annual forum.
“Fellow doctors, safety is the most important aspect in the delivery of quality health care because all the advances and improvements in medical training and technology focus entirely on safety and a better outcome which is cost-effective.”
The week-long conference ends on Friday.
