As Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, it is my pleasure to send my warmest wishes to all Australians celebrating Easter. Easter is a time when Christians from all around the world celebrate the resurrection of Christ.

It is a time to celebrate new beginnings with traditional church services filled to capacity in the lead up to Easter. According to the 2016 Census more than half of all Australians identify as belonging to a Christian faith tradition. For many Australians it is a welcome time to spend with family and friends but importantly for many it is a time to reflect and participate in the deeply moving and solemn religious traditions and customs which have been handed down for over 2000 years.

Across the nation, Easter Sunday is filled with a variety of events bringing together people from all backgrounds and truly showcasing the harmony and goodwill of Australia’s diverse cultures and what it means to be Australian. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and blessed Easter.
