An application by The Fiji Times challenging Government’s selection of Fiji Sun (News) Ltd as the exclusive newspaper for Government advertisements for 2016 will now proceed for hearing. This was after the High Court in Suva dismissed an application by the Attorney General’s Chambers to strike out the application before the full hearing of the case just because of a recent tender advertisement for the new fiscal year. Fiji Times Ltd is seeking to quash the decision to select the Fiji Sun as government’s “approved print media (newspaper)” for 2016. It contends that the decision was unlawful and in breach of the Procurement Regulations. The decision was made after the Government sought expressions of interest from the media, but did not go through a subsequent tender process.
