Fiji community ready to party in Canberra for Rugby League World Cup

    Fijian Rugby League fans are preparing to unite in Canberra to support the Fiji Batiin their final Pool D match against Italy on Friday November 10, 2017 at Canberra Stadium.

    Fiji Bati have been one of the strongest performing teams in the tournament with their undefeated run starting with a 58-12 defeat of the USA followed by a a 72-6 thrashing of the Wales including 14 tries and a hat trick to Melbourne Storm winger SuliasiVunivalu.

    Fiji Bati have scored 130 points in two games and the world number 7 team will have to lose by more than 50 points to Italy to miss qualification. Coach Mick Potter is not underestimating the Italians and said “Italy will be a step up as they have got a few NRL players.”

    Prior to the match, the Fiji fans are hosting a ‘Sigidrigi’ party inside the Western entrance of Canberra Stadium starting at 6pm.  The party will feature MC Trey, DJ Teezy, the singers Ilisavani and Tima, and some cultural dance with Fiji Youth Initiatives Meke Group.

    A post match party for the Fijian community will be held at Albert Hall in Yarralumla featuring a Fijian band. Rugby League World Cup Fiji Community Ambassador SevuWaqu said: “We are going to bring an Island style celebration to inspire our team to another victory. Go Fiji Bati” The Fiji Bati side has strong NRL representation including Jarryd Hayne, Kevin Naiqama, AkilaUate, SuliasiVunivalu and EloniVunakece.


    The match will also feature a number of current and former Italian Australian NRL stars including James Tedesco, Paul Vaughan, Nathan Brown, Daniel Alvaro and Canberra favourite Terry Campese.
