The NSW Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages is offering 24 lucky couples the chance of a lifetime – to tie the knot aboard the iconic Manly Ferry on 14 February 2018 as a special Valentine’s Day promotion.

“Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year and what better way to say ‘I do’ than aboard one of Sydney’s iconic ferries, against a backdrop of Sydney Harbour and the Sydney Opera House. This is the first time the Registry has conducted weddings on the water and it’s bound to be an unforgettable experience,” said Attorney General Mark Speakman.

The nautical nuptials will take place on three vessels bedecked with ribbons and bows. By arrangement, brides and grooms will board their ferry at either Circular Quay or Manly with the marriage solemnised enroute. All couples who marry on Valentine’s Day with the Registry will receive a complimentary commemorative certificate when they order their standard marriage certificate.

Registrar of the NSW Registry of Births Deaths & Marriages Amanda Ianna said couples will be spoiled for choice on Valentine’s Day. “If a ferry wedding doesn’t float your boat, we’ll also be conducting ceremonies in a stylish CBD wine bar, our registries in inner Sydney and Parramatta, and in hotels and the Old Courthouse in Wollongong.”

Member for Manly James Griffin said nothing could beat a ferry wedding. “Manly is seven miles from Sydney, but a thousand miles from care. So for couples departing from Circular Quay, Manly is the perfect place for a reception and even a head start to a honeymoon.”

Following changes to the Commonwealth Marriage Act, a Valentine’s Day wedding may also appeal to same-sex couples. To be eligible to marry on 14 February, all couples will need to have lodged a Notice of Intended Marriage by close of business Friday, 12 January to comply with the requirement to give one month’s notice.
