The competition between Strathfield and Granville as to who has the best Diwali lights, is on again! Following the success of last year’s competition, Member for Strathfield, Jodi McKay, and Member for Granville, Julia Finn, are again encouraging residents of their electorates to send in their photos of Diwali lights as the two Members of Parliament go head to head competing for the best Diwali lights in Sydney award.
Both Julia and Jodi proudly represent areas which have significant Hindu communities, and so it’s fitting they celebrate the festival of lights with a fun and engaging competition that encourages the whole community to participate and better understand Diwali. If you live in the Strathfield or Granville Electorates, you can enter the competition by emailing photos of how you celebrate Diwali to Jodi and Julia. The competition closes Friday 9th November with the winner will be invited to an exclusive dinner at NSW Parliament with Julia Finn MP and Jodi McKay MP.
Quote attributable to Jodi McKay, Member for Strathfield:
“Diwali is one of my favourite festivals with its universal message of good triumphing over evil. As the festival of lights its message resonates through the whole community. Our competition will ensure the broader community knows about Diwali and understands why it’s such an important celebration for Hindus around the world.”
Quote attributable to Julia Finn, Member for Granville:
“So many families in our area celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, with fantastic light displays of their own. Everyone relates to the triump of light over darkness and good over evil. Diwali is now an important celebration in Australia for Hindus and the wider community.”
“Whether you live in a house or a unit, we want to see your magnificent light displays. Please share your celebrations with us.”
