The countdown has begun for Sangam International Convention in Sydney, to be hosted by Sangam NSW. Following Sangam NSW annual general meeting in November 2018, former Vice President VishwaGoundar was elected to lead the new team into an exciting era with a view to reviving Sangam Conventions of yesteryears.
Sangam International Convention is a major event on the committee’s calendar, for which a sports committee was established to lead the preparations. Sachin Kamal (Vice-President) took over as the Chairman – Convention Organising Committee and Ravin Naidu (Vice-President) was appointed Chairman of Sports Committee. Both these leaders successfully liaised with various soccer teams locally, nationally and internationally, and are satisfied with the response from the teams. President of Mathar Sangam branch of Sangam NSW, MrsLatika Devi, and her netball liaison officer, Vishal Sagar, have ensured that females will figure prominently at the 2019 Convention. Both netball officials have commented that they are pleased with the number of teams in this year’s Convention and are confident the interest in netball will grow. The Convention program also includes a golf tournament on Sunday 6th October at Camden Lakeside Golf Club. In addition, the organisers have also included billiard championship a week before the Convention, from 26-28 September at Fiji Cultural Centre in Liverpool. Contact details for
The Convention program will commence on the evening of Friday 4 October2019, with round one of pool matches for local soccer teams. Soccer and netball competition will be the main highlight for the following two days at Bringelly Park. The Convention’s official opening ceremony will be from 10am to 10:45am on Saturday 5 October. All sports teams (soccer and netball) are expected to take part in the parade during the official opening ceremony. The National President of TISI Sangam Fiji, MrSadaNaicker will be one of the chief guests.
The Convention will conclude with a Cultural Night on Sunday 6 October at VillawoodSenior Citizens Centre, 29 Villawood Road, Villawood. Mr Steve Gopal has been entrusted with the responsibilities for the evening’s program which will include a presentation of trophies and awards, with the highlight of the evening being Hollywood (Fiji’s South Indian Raja) versus Bollywood (locally trained Bollywood dancers).
