Filmmaker Ekta Kapoor who is undoubtedly the only female producer who has done so well in the industry has always amazed the audience with her variation of content.
Ekta is hailed to as the TRP queen and daily soaps have made a mark in the field as since the time she has entered the industry she has always tried to give the audience something which they never expected. She inspired an entire genre of what came to be known as saas-bahu serials and ave Indian television shows that witnessed a run for years.
Later the filmmaker also ventured into producing films with various content and has pushed the envelope as a producer. After dominating TV, she ventured to celluloid, once again upping the ante of content on the big screen. Ekta Kapoor clearly knows the pulse of viewers across the platform as she gave us movies based on different genres. Latest being Veere Di Wedding, the theme is about the age-old concepts of proposals, marriages and how 21st-century women try and deal it in their way.
When asked Ekta Kapoor her reason to produce a film which such a different concept, she said, “I wouldn’t say we are pushing the envelope because when four girlfriends get together, this is the way they’d act and react. I guess people are not used to girls discussing boys, drinking and having fun on “screen so they’re flummoxed. It was cool for boys to discuss girls in Pyaar Ka Punchnama but when the gender changes, it becomes a dysfunctional, feminist film. If that’s the way it’s perceived, so be it. I know men going “aah” will watch the film, and the women going “oh” will definitely watch it too.
Her latest domain being the Digital platform, Ekta has tailor-made content for the online audience. She has her own digital video streaming service where she brings in content for the younger generation who doesn’t watch television more and like watching content on their phones more.
She has taken bold steps and made few contents of the most amazing contents on the digital platform as well, like the curious case of Subhash Chandra Bose’s death, a gay love story, and a married couple having an extramarital affair. These are concepts which people in our country hardly talk about but Ekta has always supported different content.
