CHINESE AMBASSADOR PAYS COURTESY CALL ON AGRICULTURE MINISTER

Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, Waterways and Environment Hon. Dr. Mahendra Reddy received a courtesy call from His Excellency Qian Bo, People’s Republic of China Ambassador to Fiji at the Ministry of Agriculture Headquarters in Raiwaqa yesterday.

The meeting focused on preparations towards the upcoming Roundtable Meeting of China and Pacific Island States Agriculture Ministers in Nadi, Fiji on 29th March, 2019.

Minister Reddy also proposed areas that the Chinese Government could assist towards the development of Fiji’s agriculture sector – key among them is assistance through grant to support farmers acquire loans from banking institutions.

Minister Reddy also requested China’s assistance through the supply of open pollinated seeds, machinery to boost rice production and fencing materials for livestock farmers.

Ambassador Qian said he would further discuss the identified areas of cooperation with his Chinese counterparts in order to assist the development of the local agriculture sector in Fiji.
