Badminton World Federation has officially announced the names of the players making up all of the 27 Teams for the upcoming Sudirman Cup 2017 to be held on the Gold Coast from May 21-28 2017.
The Sudirman Cup is the world’s premier mixed badminton championships and the historic Gold Coast event marks the first time it has been held in Australia.
Tournament Director Loke Poh Wong said: “The teams have now been announced and we are thrilled that the world’s best badminton stars are coming to the Gold Coast.”
The TOTAL BWF Sudirman Cup 2017 is supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism Events Queensland (TEQ), Gold Coast City Council and Badminton Australia.
Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones said the star lineup of international badminton players was sure to draw fans of the sport to Queensland.
“We are pleased to welcome competitors and supporters from around the world to our world-class Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre for this highly-anticipated event,” Ms Jones said.
“Our Government is committed to securing headline events like the Sudirman Cup in Queensland.
“This is the first major sporting competition to be hosted in this $105 million state-of-the-art facility ahead of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games.
“I encourage visitors to stay on after the Sudirman Cup to explore the Gold Coast, which boasts a range of exciting visitor experiences including golden beaches, lush hinterland rainforests and world-class dining and retail offerings.”
More than 500 million people worldwide are expected to tune in to watch the BWF TOTAL Sudirman Cup 2017 when it is hosted at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure centre in Carrara from 21-28 May 2017.
