Day two of the New Year’s Test delivered in a big way with Australia setting Pakistan an imposing total of 8/538 after lunch.

As soon as Matt Renshaw departed for 184 fellow youngster Peter Handscomb took centre stage. He scored his second century in four Test matches before clipping his own stumps in a bizarre dismissal.

The 25-year-old has now scored more than 200 runs in five innings since making his debut in November and is yet to be dismissed below 54.

At the change of innings, Josh Hazlewood polished off Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam to leave the tourists at 2/16 when tea was served.
