Australian pop and jazz icon Kate Ceberano will be looking to discover Western Sydney’s ‘next big thing’ when she steps up as one of the judges of this year’s Parravision talent quest. Now in its third year, Parravision is one of the highlights of City of Parramatta’s spectacular Australia Day celebrations, showcasing the talents of the City’s emerging performing artists.
Kate will join the head of Mushroom Music Ian James and celebrated dance performer/choreographer Dr Laura Osweiler on the judging panel, when 19 finalists in three categories perform on the main stage in the Parravision Grand Final.
In 2014. Kate became the first woman to be inducted into the Australian Songwriters Association (ASA) Hall of Fame, which boasts other music greats including Don Walker, The Easybeats, Little River Band (LRB) and The Angels. “I’m excited to see the diverse pool of Western Sydney talent this competition will uncover. Experiences like this offer local artists a rare performance opportunity in front of a live audience and inspiration to follow their dreams,” Kate said.
City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson welcomed Kate to the City of Parramatta.“Kate is an Aussie music legend and we are all thrilled to have her lending her support to the popular Parravision contest,” Cr Wilson said today. “Parravision provides a unique platform for emerging artists to gain valuable experience performing in front of a big, live audience and it’s one of many exciting initiatives which help support Parramatta’s thriving live music culture.
“It provides a great opportunity, not only for the artists, but also for the public to discover some of the untapped talent we have here in Western Sydney. Who knows, Kate and the other judges may very well discover the next big thing.”
Parravision finalists will compete for prizes including recording sessions and music scholarships in three category titles:
· Traditional and contemporary performance
· Includes cultural performance groups, traditional or contemporary
· Vocal performance
· Most outstanding entrant judged on vocal talent and delivery
· Parramatta Prize
· Winner of Parravision
It’s set to be a busy day for Kate. After announcing the winning Parravision acts, she will join fellow pop legend Daryl Braithwaite on the main stage to headline Parramatta’s Australia Day evening concert.The evening entertainment, capped by a spectacular fireworks display, will be part of a 15-hour marathon Australia Day celebration in the picturesque surrounds of the World Heritage-listed Parramatta Park.
