The Anzac Day service at Anzac Jawan Cenotaph, Greenway Oval Cherrybrook was conducted by Hindu Council of Australia (HCA) & Hornsby RSL Sub-Branch on Saturday 13th April and attended by approximately 300 people. The service commemorates the 104th anniversary of the historic landing at Gallipoli on 25th April 1915.
The service commenced with Hornsby RSL Pipe Band parade led by Drum Major Brian Thompson & Drum Sargent Clive Hutchens followed by the cadets from the Baulkham Hills Cadet Unit mounted as guards on the Cenotaph. The Prologue was presented by Terry James AICM JP, President of Hornsby RSL Sub-Branch. This was followed by prayer of Thanks Giving, prayer of Queen and prayer of Nation.
The dignitaries attending the service paid respect and remembered the Ultimate sacrifice of men and women for the light of freedom and humanity, to name a few are Terry James AICM JP, President of Hornsby RSL Sub-Branch, Acting Consul General Of India in Sydney Hon Chandru Appar, Hornsby Council Mayor Hon Philip Ruddock and Hon Julian Leeser MP, Member for Berowra.
The religious prayers were presented by Jagdish Trivedi, President Gujarati Samaj; Harinder Kaur, President Harman Foundation, S Harbir Bhatia, President Turramurra Gurudwara & Dr Abdul Noor Aftab, President Ahmadiyya Muslim Association – Castle Hill chapter. The wreaths were laid by Terry James AICM JP President Hornsby RSL Sub-Branch, NSW Police Sgt Steven Fishpool, Indian Ex Servicemen Lt Col Virender Sahni, Capt Subhash Grover, Wg. Cdr. V. C. Khosla, Acting Consul General Of India in Sydney Hon Chandru Appar, Hornsby Council Mayor Hon Philip Ruddock, Hon Julian Leeser MP, Member for Berowra, Hon Robert Browne – Councillor, Hornsby Council, Hon Moninder Singh – Councillor, Blacktown Council, Hon Sameer Pandey – Councillor, Parramatta Council, Hon Reena Jethi – Councillor, The Hills Council, Cherrybrook Technology High School captains Elizabeth Meizis & Daniel Monteiro representing School Principal Gary Johnson, Members of HCA, Community Organizations Gujrati Brahman Samaj, Harman Foundation, Turramarra Gurudwara, Ahmadiyya Muslim Association – Castle Hill Chapter, United India Association, Harmohan Walia (Desi Australia), Rajesh Sharma (Indus Age), Neena Bhadwar (India Downunder), IABBV Hindi School, Sydney Punjabi School, Lions Club, members of the public and school children.
The Lament was played by the piper from Hornsby RSL Pipe Band. The national flags of Australia & India were lowered during the Last Post and raised during the Reveille. The National Anthem of Australia, New Zealand & India were sung during the service. The Indian National Anthem was sung by students of IABBV Hindi School & Sydney Punjabi
School. The National flags were saluted by Drum Major Brian Thompson during the singing of the national anthems. The concluding remarks were delivered by Prakash Mehta, President Hindu Council of Australia followed by dismounting of the guards by the guard commander at the end of the service.
This is the 1st year of Anzac Memorial Service organized by Hindu Council of Australia (HCA) & Hornsby RSL Sub-Branch at Anzac Jawan Cenotaph, Cherrybrook supported by Hornsby Council and the general public.
