Anshuman Jha to make a directorial debut with a black comedy

The critically acclaimed leading man from Love Sex Aur Dhokha and Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain amongst others, Anshuman Jha, will be directing his debut feature film – A black comedy thriller set in UK – titled ‘Lord Curzon’ Ki Haveli’. The screenplay, which has been in development for over a year, has been penned by Bikas Mishra. Mishra directed Jha in the award winning ‘Chauranga’ reiterates that it was only a matter of time before the actor took this much expected plunge.

The script has been selected as one of the top 10 scripts from Asia at the South Asian Film Market (SAFM) Singapore and Anshuman will be there representing the film this year. The young actor and producer has been an assistant director through his teens on ad films with Ram Madhvani, Gauri Shinde, Ashim Ahluwalia and Subhash Ghai. Ghai always believed he is a maker more than an actor.

Jha has Rakesh Rawat’s ‘Midnight Delhi’ and Harish Vyas’ ‘Hum Bhi Akele, tum Bhi Akele’ scheduled for released later this year and early next year as a leading man.

The actor, who has directed plays in the past professionally, says, “This is a one off project. Film direction is a huge responsibility and I don’t think I can do it very often. I am an actor and that is my first love and what I have trained to be. The material of ‘Lord Curzon’ Ki Haveli’ is very close to me, it’s a genre (Black Comedy Thriller) that I enjoy a lot and therefore it’s an extension as an artist for me.”
