The Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, Waterways and Environment Hon. Dr. Mahendra Reddy today received a courtesy visit from the High Commissioner of Malaysia His Excellency Ilham Tuah Illias.

Minister Reddy and H.E Ilham Tuah Illias discussed opportunities and mutual areas of cooperation on agriculture and rural development.

Discussions focused on possible areas to further cooperation between the two countries and to work more closely to develop the agriculture sector holistically through training programs offered by the Malaysian Government as well as working in collaboration on farm mechanization.

Minister Reddy acknowledged H.E Ilham Tuah Illias stance on agriculture as a focal area for continued cooperation with much of the Fijian Government’s efforts aimed at improving the welfare of Fijian people to effectively contribute to the country’s economic development.

Minister Reddy also placed emphasis on Fiji’s intention to export beef to Malaysia as the local beef industry continued to improve.

A Trade Mission from Malaysia will visit Fiji soon to explore potential areas of cooperation, with an invitation also extended for a delegation from Fiji to visit Malaysia to strengthen ties for enhanced mutual agricultural support.
