New Home For Parramatta’s New Year’s Eve Celebrations

Get ready to embrace the sounds of summer in Parramatta Park on Thursday 26 January with a fresh line-up of bands and DJ’s set to hit the stage to celebrate triple j’s iconic Hottest 100 countdown.

City of Parramatta will ring in 2017 with a spectacular fireworks display and a host of entertainment, rides and activities, with the celebrations to be staged at a new venue in Parramatta Park.

image008Revellers will be spoilt for choice with three viewing spaces within the park offering live music and dance, roving performances, amusement rides and an array of food stalls.

The Fairground will feature entertainment for families with young children including performances by Nay Nay, JMA Entertainment, the Disney Channels’ Naomi Sequira as well as food and amusement rides.

The Crescent will showcase the main stage entertainment, with family-friendly performances by Double Digits, Little Miss Crew, Sam Moran, Krystie Steve and The X Factor’s Big T.

Carnival on the Green will host an array of roving performances, amusement rides, food stalls, as well as plenty of open space to spread out the picnic rug.

The evening program also includes meet and greets with Sam Moran and the Octonauts, and a dedicated Food Village with plenty of delicious food offerings and food trucks.

The event’s new home in Parramatta Park will give spectators front row seats to the City’s largest ever New Year’s Eve fireworks display at 9pm. Previously held along the River Foreshore and the Parade Ground at Old King’s School, the event has moved locations due to re-development works on the Parade Ground.

City of Parramatta Administrator Amanda Chadwick said: “Parramatta’s New Year’s Eve fireworks will be bigger and more colourful than ever before. People can bring their picnic rugs, settle in, and enjoy the fantastic line-up of entertainment with an expanded program at the Park.

“New Year’s Eve in Parramatta promises to be a brilliant night out in our city, so come along and help us farewell 2016 and welcome a year of new possibilities as we ring in 2017.”

Parramatta New Year’s Eve also kicks off the 2016/17 Crescent Live summer series at Parramatta Park.

Parramatta Park and Western Sydney Parklands Trusts Executive Director Suellen Fitzgerald said: “We’re delighted that Parramatta Park is home to the City’s New Year’s celebrations this year. Our stunning World Heritage-listed Park is the perfect setting for watching the fireworks display with family and friends”.

There will be limited parking available in the city and Parramatta Park will be closed to all vehicles from 1pm on Saturday 31 December. Attendees are encouraged to take public transport, plan ahead and arrive early to avoid disappointment.

New Year’s Eve in Parramatta is a glass free and family-friendly event. Free water bottle refill stations will be available thanks to Sydney Water. People are encouraged to share their images using #ParraNYE.
