Review of the movie ‘Moh Maya Money’ by ‘Divya Solgama’
Our Hindi filmmakers are highly obsessed with certain genres and, con based films are one among those. Right from the black and white era our audience loved watching the grey side of their favourite heroes in the film. The whole thought of getting quick money through some or other conning activity, is enough to keep our audience excited in such type of films. Though, most of these movies showed these heroes having a change of heart or highlighted them by camouflaging a Robinhood type of image to their characters or had a family problem to tackle.
These reasons were mandatory to distinguish our heroes with the villains of that time. With changing time, the heroes had more grey and black shades to their character in comparisons to the earlier ones. The main protagonist were shown doing all sort of ways in order to get hold of quick money. Some filmmakers preferred showing their tales in an entertaining manner while few showed it in realistic or artistic style. The latest film to join this genre is ‘Moh Maya Money’ starring RanvirShourie and NehaDhupia. So let’s find out whether ‘Moh Maya Money’ will enhance this genre by showing us something different or might end up narrating the same old tale in a new format.
‘Moh Maya Money’ is a story of a land broker Aman (RanvirShourie) and his wife Divya (Neha Sharma). Aman believes in earning his money by all means while Divya is a part of an international news channel. In order to buy a piece of land, Aman borrows a huge amount from the local goons. But before he could build his dream house out there, Aman’s financial situation takes a huge turn and what happens next is what the entire film is all about.
Screenplay & technical details:
The story is typical and been shown is several films. Though the screenplay especially in the first half, is bit intriguing with couple of good twist and turns. Sadly, the slow narrative style dilutes the flow of the film. The middle portions drags due to repetitive scenes and situations. The entire sequence of Ranvir and Nehahiding their secrets with each other is engaging. The second half goes on an impractical mode with loads of cinematic liberties and ends up on a forced abrupt note. The connection factor is highly missing in the film. The cinematography is average and fails to enhance the quality of the film.
Debutant director Manish Bharadwaj comes up with an interesting story which fits properly into this genre. He has some decent twist and turns induced into the screenplay but fails to execute it due to the slow pace and inconsistent second half of the film. The film could have ended up quite well if it was executed in better way.
RanvirShourie does his part with full integrity but has nothing new to offer. NehaDhupia has lost her sexy image and looks quite bloated in every scene of the film. Ashwath Bhatt lends good support and seems like his voice was badly dubbed by Vinay Pathak.
So on an overall basis, ‘Moh Maya Money’ starts on a fair mode but fails to lure it’s audience due to its slow narrative and stale presentation.
